Just 10 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Bishop, Inyo County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, at 2:49 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5.5 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.0.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Round Valley (pop. 440) located 1 miles from the epicenter, Mesa (pop. 250) 3 miles away, Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek (pop. 2,600) 11 miles away, and Bishop (pop. 3,800) 12 miles away. In Big Pine (pop. 1,800, 24 miles away), and Mammoth Lakes (pop. 7,900, 26 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
