Small magnitude 3.2 earthquake 18 miles northeast of McAlester, Oklahoma, United States 3.2 quake 8 May 12:35 am (GMT -5) A magnitude 3.2 earthquake near McAlester, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, USA, was reported only 15 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter after midnight on Sunday, May 8th, 2022, at 12:35 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.2 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Quinton (pop. 1000) located 8 miles from the epicenter, Longtown (pop. 2,700) 12 miles away, Wilburton (pop. 2,700) 15 miles away, North Fork Town (pop. 2,900) 16 miles away, Krebs (pop. 2,000) 16 miles away, and McAlester (pop. 18,300) 18 miles away. In Stigler (pop. 2,800, 25 miles away), Okmulgee (pop. 12,200, 46 miles away), and Muskogee (pop. 38,500, 47 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
