Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.4 just reported 15 km northwest of JavÄnrÅ«d, Iran 4.4 quake 29 May 10:20 am (GMT +4:30) A magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Javānrūd, Kermanshah Province, Iran, was reported only 16 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 35 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Sunday, May 29th, 2022, at 9:50 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Javānrūd (pop. 38,700) located 15 km from the epicenter, and Paveh (pop. 17,800) 16 km away.
