Magnitude 3.2 earthquake strikes near McAlester, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, USA3.2 quake 5 Jun 2:24 am (GMT -5) A very shallow magnitude 3.2 earthquake was reported early morning near McAlester, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, USA. According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Sunday, June 5th, 2022, at 2:24 am local time at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Quinton (pop. 1000) located 7 miles from the epicenter, Longtown (pop. 2,700) 12 miles away, Wilburton (pop. 2,700) 15 miles away, North Fork Town (pop. 2,900) 16 miles away, Krebs (pop. 2,000) 17 miles away, and McAlester (pop. 18,300) 19 miles away. In Stigler (pop. 2,800, 24 miles away), Checotah (pop. 3,300, 27 miles away), and Muskogee (pop. 38,500, 47 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
