Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Suai, Cova-Lima, Timor-Leste 4.5 quake 9 Jun 8:33 pm (GMT +9) An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 12 minutes ago 9 km southwest of Suai, Indonesia, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Suai, Cova-Lima, Timor-Leste, in the evening on Thursday, June 9th, 2022, at 8:33 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Suai (pop. 21,500) located 9 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Atambua (pop. 35,800) located 46 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Gleno (pop. 8,100) located 77 km from the epicenter, Kefamenanu (pop. 29,500) 81 km away, Aileu (pop. 17,400) 82 km away, Maubara (pop. 16,300) 85 km away, Likisa (pop. 19,000) 89 km away, and Delhi (pop. 150,000) 100 km away.
