Moderate 4.4 quake hits near Chinandega, Nicaragua 4.4 quake 16 Jun 10:36 pm (GMT -6) Just 15 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Chinandega, Nicaragua. The tremor was recorded late at night on Thursday, June 16th, 2022, at 10:36 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 86 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Corinto (pop. 19,200) located 10 km from the epicenter, El Realejo (pop. 6,200) 16 km away, Chichigalpa (pop. 33,100) 21 km away, Posoltega (pop. 6,400) 21 km away, Chinandega (pop. 126,400) 24 km away, Leon (pop. 144,500) 26 km away, El Viejo (pop. 53,500) 29 km away, La Paz Centro (pop. 23,500) 49 km away, Nagarote (pop. 26,300) 62 km away, and Managua (pop. 973,100) 99 km away.
