Moderate 4.3 quake hits near Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico 4.3 quake 18 Jul 11:57 pm (GMT -5) Just 24 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday, July 18th, 2022, at 11:57 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 18 km below the surface. The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Tuza (pop. 250) located 11 km from the epicenter, Collantes (pop. 2,200) 26 km away, Jose Maria Morelos (pop. 2,300) 27 km away, Santiago (pop. 10,100) 37 km away, Santa Maria (pop. 4,800) 38 km away, Santa Maria Huazolotitlan (pop. 4,800) 38 km away, Santa Catarina Mechoacan (pop. 4,500) 43 km away, and Santiago Pinotepa Nacional (pop. 29,600) 45 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rio Grande (pop. 12,900) located 51 km from the epicenter.
