A moderately shallow magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported in the morning near Ishinomaki, Ishinomaki Shi, Honshu-miyagi-ken, Japan.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Thursday, July 28th, 2022, at 9:32 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 40 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake as well. A third agency, Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7.
