Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.2 just reported 27 km south of Tinogasta, Argentina
4.2 quake 9 Aug 6:30 am (GMT -3)

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Argentina near Tinogasta, Departamento de Tinogasta, Catamarca, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022, at 6:30 am local time at an intermediate depth of 148 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Tinogasta (pop. 14,500, 27 km away), Fiambala (pop. 8,100, 70 km away), Londres (pop. 2,600, 75 km away), Arauco (pop. 13,700, 78 km away), Vinchina (pop. 2,800, 84 km away), Chilecito (pop. 42,200, 96 km away), and La Puerta de San José (pop. 1,100, 97 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
