Magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes near Alaska City, Anchorage, Alaska, USA
3.6 quake 25 Aug 9:19 pm (GMT -8)

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in the United States near Alaska City, Anchorage, Alaska, only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Thursday, August 25th, 2022, at 9:19 pm local time at a shallow depth of 9.3 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Girdwood (pop. 2,300) located 5 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Elmendorf Air Force Base (pop. 6,600) located 24 miles from the epicenter, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 26 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 26 miles away, and Alaska City (pop. 298,700) 30 miles away. In Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900, 38 miles away), Palmer (pop. 6,800, 40 miles away), Wasilla (pop. 9,300, 41 miles away), Lakes (pop. 8,400, 41 miles away), and Tanaina (pop. 8,200, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
