Small tremor of magnitude 3.4 just reported 17 miles northeast of West Yellowstone, Wyoming, United States 3.4 quake 25 Aug 11:51 pm (GMT -6) Just 27 minutes ago, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck near West Yellowstone, Gallatin County, Montana, USA. The tremor was recorded late at night on Thursday, August 25th, 2022, at 11:51 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 4.7 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.9 earthquake. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mammoth (pop. 260) located 15 miles from the epicenter, West Yellowstone (pop. 1,300) 17 miles away, and Gardiner (pop. 880) 18 miles away. In Big Sky (pop. 2,300, 45 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
