OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,976 Los Angeles, USA	Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.0 just reported 80 km southeast of Pucallpa, Peru 5.0 quake 1 Oct 1:23 am (GMT -5) The Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN) reported a magnitude 5.0 quake in Peru near Pucallpa, Provincia de Coronel Portillo, Ucayali, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, at 1:23 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Vinoncuro (pop. 240) located 9 km from the epicenter, Junin Pablo (pop. 690) 15 km away, Bella Flor (pop. 220) 22 km away, and Caimito (pop. 580) 27 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in San Fernando (pop. 67,800) located 77 km from the epicenter, Pucallpa (pop. 310,800) 80 km away, Campo Verde (pop. 8,900) 94 km away, and Campoverde (pop. 8,900) 94 km away.
