Small 3.5 quake hits near McKinleyville, Humboldt County, California, USA 3.5 quake 10 Jan 10:32 am (GMT -8) The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.5 quake in the United States near McKinleyville, Humboldt County, California, only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, at 10:32 am local time at a shallow depth of 13 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fieldbrook (pop. 860) located 2 miles from the epicenter, McKinleyville (pop. 15,200) 4 miles away, Blue Lake (pop. 1,300) 5 miles away, Arcata (pop. 17,800) 6 miles away, Bayside (pop. 17,100) 7 miles away, Eureka (pop. 27,000) 12 miles away, Pine Hills (pop. 3,100) 16 miles away, and Fortuna (pop. 12,000) 25 miles away.
