I've got the old Tarb's decoder & sat dish. I am able to access Pink, but I'm fed-up looking at comments from TV PLUS scrolling across the screen. Does anyone know how to get Pink using any of the free to air channels?

PINK TV is FTA on PAS8 as well as on sat OPTUS B3 at the moment! I was a bit fed up from TV + with that annoying msg so I turned my dish to OPTUS B3...I am tho not sure if I answered your question...PINK PLUS will never be FTA, only for the time being as they are still (TV+ and UBI) in the "testing" phase. Turn the dish to Optus B3??? I know from the c.b days that an antenna needs to be swr'd in. Now where do I buy a field strength meter so I can line up the dish? Satellite dishes / decoders is new to me.

u can get a satellite finder if u want cost about 30-50 dollars from any sat shop<br /><br />but i just usually enter the freq into my reciever and search for the satellite and when i find it the signal meters on the reciever show me im on the right sat and get channels working<br /><br />i used to use the CB aswell this is a total different ball game to me as cb aerials u just set up straight and ur set setting up a satellite dish is abit harder<br /><br />if ur on pas8 to move to b3 u need to move the dish a few degrees left and lift the dish elevation to about 55-57 degrees until u find a signal on b3<br /><br />a good program to use for this stuff would be gorbtrack has alot of technical details on how to setup a dish <br /><br />download it from here <br /> http://members.chello.nl/~berry.walda/GorbTrack_EN.htm<br /> <br /> <small>[ 26. Hey you guys are really into this stuff. So you're using a scanner connected to the dish and relying on the fs meter to guide you. How simple is that. What freq range do the satellite tv channels cover?

if ur after optus B3 frequencies <br /><br />look here http://www.lyngsat.com/optusb3.html<br /><br />just type one of them into ur reciever and start searching the sky should be only a few cm's to the left and raise the dish elevation up abit<br /><br />the signal meter on ur reciever will show signal always the one to watch so u know ur on a bird is the quality meter as it picks up the channels from that sat and u know ur on the right satellite<br /><br />also forgot to mention the lnb should sit at about 6 o clock like the cable hanging towards the ground <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/default/wink.gif" />

yeah so its not that hard this is what I did:<br />marked with a text marker the old dish position just in case I screw up and then the changes in:<br />1. elevation degrees<br />2. left right position<br />3. LNB position (the white thing in front of a dish)<br />then I unscrewed those screws and only I know how hard was that (the hardest bit)<br />THEN:<br />move it LEFT A FEW CM from current position mine was I recken 2.5 or 3 cm<br />and lift the elevation angle to about 47 (or in range from 45 to 50 degrees this is marked on the dish u ll see)<br />and LNB so the cable in front of antenna is facing the ground <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/default/wink.gif" />

yeh they do have a signal and quality meter but its better to use some other FTA reciever to find the sat first as the tarbs box isent the best box for searching for sats<br /><br />and yeh a sat finder i neva used one so wouldt know if there any useful but i have setup my dishes just with my recievers

If you change the angle of the dish, is it necessary to move the LNB?

yes for optus b3 needs to be at 6 oclock like the cable to be pointing straight down towards the ground if u know wat i mean <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" />
