Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Paseh, West Java, Indonesia4.4 quake 1 Feb 10:57 pm (GMT +7) Just 18 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Paseh, West Java, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded late at night on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, at 10:57 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface. The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Paseh (pop. 126,200) located 13 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Banjaran (pop. 165,000) located 21 km from the epicenter, Pameungpeuk (pop. 48,300) 23 km away, Soreang (pop. 150,900) 27 km away, Margahayukencana (pop. 83,100) 29 km away, Cileunyi (pop. 111,500) 30 km away, Bandung (pop. 1,699,700) 33 km away, Cimahi (pop. 493,700) 40 km away, and Lembang (pop. 183,100) 44 km away.
