Small magnitude 2.3 quake hits 3 miles northeast of Victoria, Canada in the morning 2.3 quake 5 Feb 11:52 am (GMT -8) A magnitude 2.3 earthquake near Victoria, Capital Regional District, British Columbia, Canada, was reported 34 minutes ago by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 17 miles beneath the epicenter in the morning on Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at 11:52 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Oak Bay (pop. 18,000, 2 miles away), Victoria (pop. 289,600, 3 miles away), Esquimalt (pop. 17,700, 6 miles away), Colwood (pop. 14,700, 9 miles away), Langford (pop. 22,500, 9 miles away), Metchosin (pop. 4,800, 12 miles away), North Saanich (pop. 11,100, 14 miles away), Duncan (pop. 22,200, 28 miles away), and North Cowichan (pop. 32,300, 31 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
