Small magnitude 3.8 quake hits 11 km northeast of Cusco, Peru early afternoon
3.8 quake 10.7 km north of Cusco, Peru, Feb 18, 2023 3:35 pm (GMT -5)

A shallow magnitude 3.8 earthquake was reported early afternoon near Cusco, Provincia de Cusco, Peru.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at 3:35 pm local time at a shallow depth of 14 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cuper Alto (pop. 270) located 7 km from the epicenter, Pisak (pop. 2,000) 10 km away, Cusco (pop. 312,100) 11 km away, Calca (pop. 9,200) 11 km away, Wanchaq (pop. 59,100) 11 km away, and Santiago (pop. 64,100) 12 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Anta (pop. 5,900) located 23 km from the epicenter, Urubamba (pop. 7,500) 24 km away, and Oropesa (pop. 4,000) 26 km away.
