Small earthquake of magnitude 3.5 just reported 8 km northwest of Gemlik, Turkey 3.5 quake 2 Jun 3:52 am (GMT +3) An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred only 28 minutes ago 8 km northwest of Gemlik, Turkey, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Gemlik, Bursa, Turkey, early morning on Friday, June 2nd, 2023, at 3:52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Haydariye (pop. 300) located 2 km from the epicenter, Gemlik (pop. 71,100) 8 km away, and Orhangazi (pop. 51,800) 16 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Yalova (pop. 71,300) located 22 km from the epicenter, Mudanya (pop. 23,200) 24 km away, Gursu (pop. 24,500) 32 km away, Bursa (pop. 1,412,700) 34 km away, Kestel (pop. 36,200) 34 km away, and Gebze (pop. 281,400) 43 km away.
