Small 3.9 quake hits near Preveza, Préveza, Epirus, Greece3.9 quake 23 Jun 1:56 pm (GMT +3) The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported a magnitude 3.9 quake in Greece near Preveza, Préveza, Epirus, only 25 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Friday, June 23rd, 2023, at 1:56 pm local time at a shallow depth of 17 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.9, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.2. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Mitikas (pop. 870) located 7 km from the epicenter, Preveza (pop. 17,300) 12 km away, Néos Oropos (pop. 1,400) 19 km away, Lefkada (pop. 8,700) 21 km away, and Louron (pop. 2,000) 22 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Vonitsa (pop. 4,700) located 25 km from the epicenter, Kanalaki (pop. 2,400) 26 km away, Philippiada (pop. 4,600) 32 km away, and Arta (pop. 21,900) 36 km away.
