Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Small magnitude 3.5 earthquake 9 miles north of Morgan Hill, California, United States 3.5 quake 30 Jul 6:49 am (GMT -7) Just 11 minutes ago, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Morgan Hill, Santa Clara County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded early morning on Sunday, July 30th, 2023, at 6:49 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 2.9 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well. A third agency, The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.5. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Morgan Hill (pop. 42,900) located 9 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Jose (pop. 1,026,900) located 15 miles from the epicenter, Campbell (pop. 41,100) 17 miles away, Gilroy (pop. 53,200) 18 miles away, Santa Clara (pop. 126,200) 19 miles away, Milpitas (pop. 77,600) 19 miles away, Cupertino (pop. 60,600) 22 miles away, seonibeil (pop. 151,800) 23 miles away, and Fremont (pop. 232,200) 28 miles away.
