Small magnitude 3.3 quake hits 2 km southeast of Lorca, Spain early evening

An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred only 12 minutes ago 2 km southeast of Lorca, Spain, Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Lorca, Murcia, Spain, early evening on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023, at 6:44 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cazalla (pop. 2,300) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Lorca (pop. 91,900) 2 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Puerto Lumbreras (pop. 13,900) located 15 km from the epicenter, Totana (pop. 29,200) 21 km away, Aguilas (pop. 34,500) 29 km away, Alhama de Murcia (pop. 19,900) 32 km away, Mazarron (pop. 35,200) 33 km away, and Huercal Overa (pop. 17,600) 37 km away. In Murcia (pop. 436,900, 61 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
