Magnitude 3.7 earthquake strikes near Ancud, Chiloé, Los Lagos, Chile

An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred late at night on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023, at 11:24 pm local time near Ancud, Chiloé, Los Lagos, Chile, as reported by The National Seismological Center (Centro Sismológico Nacional, CSN) of the University of Chile.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 46 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ancud (pop. 28,000) located 50 km from the epicenter. In Calbuco (pop. 12,500, 58 km away), Puerto Varas (pop. 25,000, 58 km away), Puerto Montt (pop. 160,100, 60 km away), and Purranque (pop. 13,600, 72 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
