An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred only 13 minutes ago 33 miles south of Eureka, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 19 miles beneath the epicenter near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA, early afternoon on Thursday, August 17th, 2023, at 2:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake as well.
