Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Small magnitude 3.6 earthquake 11 km southwest of Casablanca, Morocco 3.6 quake 9 Sep 3:45 am (GMT +1) An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred early morning on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at 3:45 am local time near Casablanca, Casablanca-Settat, Morocco, as reported by Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 22 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Casablanca (pop. 3,144,900) located 11 km from the epicenter, Zawyat an Nwaçer (pop. 12,700) 21 km away, Berrechid (pop. 94,000) 34 km away, and Mohammedia (pop. 187,700) 35 km away.
