Small magnitude 2.8 quake hits 56 km north of Saint-Brieuc, France in the morning

An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred in the morning on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, at 9:13 am local time near Saint-Brieuc, Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne, France, as reported by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Ploubazlanec (pop. 3,500, 29 km away), Paimpol (pop. 8,600, 32 km away), Plouha (pop. 4,400, 39 km away), Saint Pierre Port (pop. 16,500, 53 km away), Saint Helier (pop. 28,000, 55 km away), Saint-Brieuc (pop. 52,800, 56 km away), and Lannion (pop. 21,500, 56 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
