Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.6 just reported 23 km northwest of Rovigo, Italy 4.6 quake 23 km west of Rovigo, Veneto, Italy, Oct 25, 2023 3:45 pm (GMT +2) An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred early afternoon on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023, at 3:45 pm local time near Rovigo, Provincia di Rovigo, Veneto, Italy, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Badia Polesine (pop. 6,900) located 5 km from the epicenter, Este (pop. 17,000) 15 km away, and Legnago (pop. 21,600) 18 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Rovigo (pop. 39,300) located 23 km from the epicenter, Ferrara (pop. 92,800) 35 km away, Padova (pop. 203,700) 41 km away, Vicenza (pop. 107,100) 45 km away, Venice (pop. 51,300) 72 km away, and Bologna (pop. 366,100) 73 km away.
