Small magnitude 2.1 quake hits 6 km northeast of Grindavik, Iceland around noon 2.1 quake Iceland: 5.7 Km NNE of Grindavík Nov 10, 2023 12:41 pm (GMT +0) An earthquake of magnitude 2.1 occurred around noon on Friday, November 10th, 2023, at 12:41 pm local time near Grindavik, Grindavíkurbær, Southern Peninsula, Iceland, as reported by the Icelandic Met Office (IMO). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5.5 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Grindavik (pop. 2,900) located 6 km from the epicenter.
