Small earthquake of magnitude 3.6 just reported 14 miles east of Snyder, Texas, United States 3.6 quake 18 Nov 8:16 am (GMT -6) A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Snyder, Scurry County, Texas, USA, was reported only 20 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 1.6 miles beneath the epicenter in the morning on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at 8:16 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Hermleigh (pop. 350) located 10 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rotan (pop. 1,400) located 14 miles from the epicenter, Snyder (pop. 11,800) 14 miles away, Roscoe (pop. 1,300) 23 miles away, Sweetwater (pop. 10,800) 25 miles away, and Colorado City (pop. 4,100) 28 miles away.
