Small magnitude 3.7 earthquake 36 km southeast of Lamia, Greece 3.7 quake 27 Nov 6:36 am (GMT +2) An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred early morning on Monday, November 27th, 2023, at 6:36 am local time near Lamia, Phthiotis, Central Greece, Greece, as reported by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 14.9 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.4. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Regkini (pop. 580) located 5 km from the epicenter, Elateia (pop. 2,400) 7 km away, Kato Tithoréa (pop. 2,800) 9 km away, Kamena Vourla (pop. 2,800) 11 km away, Agios Konstantinos (pop. 2,500) 12 km away, and Amfiklia (pop. 3,000) 15 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Livadia (pop. 21,500) located 30 km from the epicenter, Lamia (pop. 52,000) 36 km away, and Thebes (pop. 22,000) 64 km away.
