Significant 5.3 quake hits near Bah-Bah, Agusan del Sur, Caraga, Philippines 5.3 quake 10 Feb 1:21 pm (GMT +8) A magnitude 5.3 earthquake near Bah-Bah, Agusan del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, was reported only 11 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 55 km beneath the epicenter around noon on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at 1:21 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Lianga (pop. 13,600) located 13 km from the epicenter, Bah-Bah (pop. 28,600) 14 km away, and San Francisco (pop. 18,500) 19 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Bayugan (pop. 40,600) located 26 km from the epicenter, Talacogon (pop. 15,600) 36 km away, Tandag (pop. 29,000) 47 km away, Butuan (pop. 309,700) 57 km away, and Libertad (pop. 250,400) 61 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
