An earthquake of magnitude 2.5 occurred 35 minutes ago 21 km northeast of Nantes, France, France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France, early morning on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 1:52 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.5 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Saint-Mars-du-Désert (pop. 4,000) located 1 km from the epicenter, and Carquefou (pop. 18,100) 11 km away. In La Chapelle-sur-Erdre (pop. 18,500, 14 km away), Sankt-Sebast'jan-sjur-Luar (pop. 29,200, 20 km away), Orvault (pop. 25,300, 20 km away), Nantes (pop. 277,300, 21 km away), Vertou (pop. 22,900, 23 km away), Rezé (pop. 39,200, 24 km away), and Saint-Herblain (pop. 46,900, 26 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
