Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.8 just reported 65 km southwest of Cotabato City, Philippines 4.8 quake 4 Mar 9:59 pm (GMT +8) Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 4.8 quake in the Philippines near Cotabato City, PH.14.B8, Mindanao Musulman, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Monday, March 4th, 2024, at 9:59 pm local time at a shallow depth of 20 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Upi (pop. 9,400) located 52 km from the epicenter, Cotabato City (pop. 179,400) 65 km away, Parang (pop. 44,900) 75 km away, Pagaluñgan (pop. 31,100) 77 km away, Maganoy (pop. 17,400) 83 km away, Budta (pop. 1,273,700) 84 km away, and Malingao (pop. 1,122,000) 87 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Muricay (pop. 132,100) located 94 km from the epicenter, and Pagadian City (pop. 186,900) 95 km away.
