OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,976 Los Angeles, USA	Small 3.7 quake hits near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, Greece 3.7 quake 6 Mar 12:17 am (GMT +2) A magnitude 3.7 earthquake near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, Greece, was reported only 10 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Greece. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter after midnight on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, at 12:17 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Kouvalata (pop. 56) located 4 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Lixouri (pop. 3,800) located 9 km from the epicenter, Argostoli (pop. 9,800) 13 km away, Valsamata (pop. 1000) 19 km away, and Samos (pop. 1,300) 21 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ithaki (pop. 1,800) located 29 km from the epicenter, Poros (pop. 1,100) 35 km away, Lefkada (pop. 8,700) 67 km away, and Zakynthos (pop. 11,500) 70 km away.
