Small 2.4 quake hits near Zagreb, HR.21.3186885, City of Zagreb, Croatia 2.4 quake 8 Mar 8:45 pm (GMT +1) A very shallow magnitude 2.4 earthquake was reported in the evening near Zagreb, HR.21.3186885, City of Zagreb, Croatia.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at 8:45 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 2.2 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Dubrava (pop. 1,300) located 5 km from the epicenter, Zagreb (pop. 699,000) 7 km away, Sesvete (pop. 52,400) 8 km away, and Novi Zagreb (pop. 5,000) 10 km away. In Stenjevec (pop. 41,300, 13 km away), Zapresic (pop. 19,700, 17 km away), Velika Gorica (pop. 31,600, 18 km away), Dugo Selo (pop. 10,500, 18 km away), Brezovica (pop. 10,900, 18 km away), and Samobor (pop. 16,000, 25 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
