Magnitude 3.8 earthquake strikes near Kos, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece 3.8 quake 6 Sep 4:05 am (GMT +3) An intermediate magnitude 3.8 earthquake was reported early morning near Kos, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece. According to the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the quake hit on Friday, September 6th, 2024, at 4:05 am local time at an intermediate depth of 120.5 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Mandraki (pop. 680, 19 km away), Kefalos (pop. 2,500, 22 km away), Kardamena (pop. 1,900, 32 km away), Antimacheia (pop. 2,300, 32 km away), Kalymnos (pop. 12,300, 45 km away), Kos (pop. 19,200, 49 km away), Turgutreis (pop. 16,500, 60 km away), and Bodrum (pop. 39,300, 70 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
