Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes near Patras, Achaea, Western Greece, Greece 3.9 quake 11 Sep 7:22 am (GMT +3) The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported a magnitude 3.9 quake in Greece near Patras, Achaea, Western Greece, only 5 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, at 7:22 am local time at a shallow depth of 18.2 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.1. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Ampelos (pop. 210) located 5 km from the epicenter, and Aigeira (pop. 1,500) 5 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Xylokastro (pop. 5,500) located 23 km from the epicenter, Aigio (pop. 20,400) 30 km away, Kiato (pop. 9,800) 35 km away, Corinthos (pop. 30,200) 54 km away, Livadia (pop. 21,500) 58 km away, Patras (pop. 168,000) 58 km away, and Argos (pop. 22,200) 61 km away.
