Small magnitude 3.3 quake hits 25 km northwest of Murcia, Spain in the evening

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake near Murcia, Spain, was reported only 12 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the evening on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, at 9:59 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.2. A third agency, Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ojos (pop. 600) located 4 km from the epicenter, and Archena (pop. 18,200) 6 km away.
