Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes near Midland, Midland County, Texas, USA4.8 quake 33 km WSW of Ackerly, Texas, Sep 16, 2024 07:49 pm (GMT -5) An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 7 minutes ago 28 miles north of Midland, Texas, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3 miles beneath the epicenter near Midland, Midland County, Texas, USA, early evening on Monday, September 16th, 2024, at 7:49 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
