Small 3.6 quake hits near Merredin, Western Australia, Australia 3.6 quake Australia: Wyalkatchem, WA, Oct 19, 2024 11:14 am (GMT +8) Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in Australia near Merredin, Western Australia, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, at 11:14 am local time at a very shallow depth of 1.9 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In South Yelbeni (pop. 29) located 3 miles from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include North Kellerberrin (pop. 39) located 15 miles from the epicenter, Korrelocking (pop. 50) 15 miles away, North Tammin (pop. 120) 17 miles away, Wyalkatchem (pop. 400) 20 miles away, Kellerberrin (pop. 960) 24 miles away, Tammin (pop. 190) 27 miles away, Merredin (pop. 2,900) 36 miles away, and Cunderdin (pop. 890) 37 miles away.
