Magnitude 2.4 earthquake strikes near Murcia, Spain 2.4 quake 29 Oct 11:12 pm (GMT +1) A magnitude 2.4 earthquake near Murcia, Spain, was reported only 21 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5.4 km beneath the epicenter late at night on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, at 11:12 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), which listed it as a magnitude 2.4 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Santa Cruz (pop. 2,500) located 10 km from the epicenter, and Murcia (pop. 436,900) 11 km away. In Santomera (pop. 15,300, 14 km away), Alcantarilla (pop. 41,100, 17 km away), Orihuela (pop. 86,200, 18 km away), Molina de Segura (pop. 64,100, 21 km away), San Javier (pop. 31,400, 22 km away), Torre Pacheco (pop. 31,500, 23 km away), and Cartagena (pop. 212,000, 37 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
