Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Rodriguez, Rizal, Calabarzon, Philippines 4.2 quake 11 Nov 1:20 am (GMT +8) A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Rodriguez, Rizal, Calabarzon, Philippines, was reported only 12 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 8 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, November 11th, 2024, at 1:20 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Rodriguez (pop. 134,400) located 12 km from the epicenter, San Mateo (pop. 134,300) 22 km away, Antipolo City (pop. 549,500) 27 km away, Cainta (pop. 283,200) 31 km away, Quezon City (pop. 2,761,700) 32 km away, Taytay (pop. 231,500) 32 km away, Angono (pop. 87,200) 34 km away, Pasig City (pop. 617,300) 35 km away, and Manila (pop. 1,600,000) 41 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Calamba (pop. 316,600) located 67 km from the epicenter.
