Small magnitude 2.8 earthquake 29 miles south of Warragul, Victoria, Australia 2.8 quake Near S.e. Coast Of Australia Nov 11, 2024 09:29 pm (GMT +11) A very shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported in the evening near Warragul, Baw Baw, Victoria, Australia. According to Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the quake hit on Monday, November 11th, 2024, at 9:29 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5.3 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tarwin (pop. 54) located 1 miles from the epicenter, and Leongatha (pop. 5,400) 8 miles away. In Foster (pop. 1,700, 12 miles away), Korumburra (pop. 4,300, 14 miles away), Inverloch (pop. 5,300, 15 miles away), Mirboo North (pop. 2,100, 15 miles away), Wonthaggi (pop. 4,800, 22 miles away), Warragul (pop. 15,300, 29 miles away), and Traralgon (pop. 24,600, 40 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
