Small magnitude 2.3 earthquake 10 miles southeast of Middletown, Connecticut, United States 2.3 quake 20 Nov 7:33 pm (GMT -5) Just 23 minutes ago, a 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USA. The tremor was recorded early evening on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, at 7:33 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 1.6 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.3 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.3. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Moodus (pop. 1,400) located 2 miles from the epicenter. In Middletown (pop. 46,800, 10 miles away), Glastonbury (pop. 31,900, 15 miles away), Watertown (pop. 26,700, 16 miles away), Meriden (pop. 60,000, 18 miles away), New Britain (pop. 72,800, 19 miles away), East Hartford (pop. 51,300, 19 miles away), Hartford (pop. 124,000, 20 miles away), and Queenapick (pop. 130,300, 29 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
