Significant 5.2 quake hits near Basco, Batanes, Cagayan Valley, Philippines

Just 37 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Basco, Batanes, Cagayan Valley, Philippines. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at 11:35 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.2 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) at magnitude 5.2, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency at magnitude 5.0, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Basco (pop. 7,300) located 38 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
