Significant magnitude 5.7 quake hits 41 km north of Kanazawa, Japan late at night5.7 quake 26 Nov 10:47 pm (GMT +9) An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred only 4 minutes ago 41 km north of Kanazawa, Japan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 8 km beneath the epicenter near Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan, late at night on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, at 10:47 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Nanao (pop. 45,300) located 35 km from the epicenter, Himimachi (pop. 54,500) 38 km away, Kanazawa (pop. 458,900) 41 km away, Takaoka (pop. 170,100) 45 km away, Nonoichi (pop. 48,400) 48 km away, Matsutō (pop. 68,200) 50 km away, Nanto-shi (pop. 55,300) 53 km away, and Komatsu (pop. 109,000) 64 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
