Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.4 just reported 114 km west of Jayapura, Indonesia

A moderately shallow magnitude 5.4 earthquake was reported in the evening near Jayapura, Kota Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at 9:54 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 41 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Abepura (pop. 62,200) located 104 km from the epicenter, and Jayapura (pop. 404,000) 114 km away.
