Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Puerto Escondido, San Pedro Mixtepec -Dto. 22 -, Oaxaca, Mexico

Just 39 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Puerto Escondido, San Pedro Mixtepec -Dto. 22 -, Oaxaca, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Friday, January 17th, 2025, at 8:57 am local time, at a shallow depth of 16 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Agustinillo (pop. 290) located 13 km from the epicenter, Puerto Angel (pop. 2,600) 15 km away, Santa Maria Tonameca (pop. 1,900) 23 km away, San Pedro Pochutla (pop. 13,700) 24 km away, and San José Chacalapa (pop. 2,000) 33 km away.
