Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Fort St. John, Peace River Regional District, British Columbia, CanadaA very shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported late at night near Fort St. John, Peace River Regional District, British Columbia, Canada. According to the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), the quake hit on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, at 11:52 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 1.2 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Grand Haven (pop. 740) located 63 miles from the epicenter, and Fort St. John (pop. 17,400) 64 miles away.
