Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.5 just reported 24 km southeast of Adiwerna, Indonesia An intermediate to deep magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early morning near Adiwerna, Central Java, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, at 2:09 am local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 245. km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.9.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Lebaksiu (pop. 33,600, 12 km away), Slawi (pop. 61,200, 19 km away), Tarub (pop. 75,700, 23 km away), Adiwerna (pop. 134,200, 24 km away), Dukuhturi (pop. 98,100, 30 km away), Tegal (pop. 237,100, 31 km away), Purwokerto (pop. 217,200, 32 km away), and Pemalang (pop. 184,100, 34 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
