Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington, USA An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 3 minutes ago 19 miles southwest of Bellingham, Washington, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5.6 miles beneath the epicenter near Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington, USA, early morning on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, at 5:02 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Orcas (pop. 390) located 6 miles from the epicenter, and Anacortes (pop. 16,400) 10 miles away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
